Job description
Consultant O&G with Specialist Interest in Fetal Medicine

A post has become available for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to augment our enthusiastic, innovative and dedicated team of consultants.

The post holder will join Mr Mustafa Sadiq in providing a fetal medicine service which supports a regional level 3 neonatal service. The fetal medicine service provides a well‑established fetal medicine MDT involving dedicated specialist midwives who provide growth and preterm services along with genetic counselling.

The post holder will be expected to hold the RCOG ATSM in Fetal Medicine (or equivalent) and will be able to support all fetal medicine services including high risk screening, growth, preterm, multiple pregnancy and congenital abnormalities.

The successful candidate will be expected to support fetal medicine MDT meetings and engage fully with specific fetal medicine governance including MBBRACE, MNSI, PMRT reviews, GROW and neonatal and perinatal morbidity meetings.

Main duties of the job

It would be expected that the post‑holder has a leadership qualification and demonstrates a willingness to progress in a leadership role.

The post‑holder will be joining a team of consultants and will be expected to participate in the hot week (currently 1:14) and obstetrics / gynaecology (currently 1:14) on‑call rota and contribute to antenatal care and labour ward management and Caesarean Section Lists to support Ockenden recommendations.

There would be intention to have a regular gynaecology theatre operating session most likely supporting the ‘Hot List’ emergency gynae theatre, which could provide opportunity to perform intermediate gynae surgical procedures.

There will be secretarial support for the post and use of an office for the consultant. They will also be allocated a mentor by the Trust if required.

Job plan will be finalised on appointment. The suggested 10PA job plan is as follows:

  • Hot Week – 1
  • Admin – 1
  • Core SPA – 1.5
  • Theatre/CS – 1
  • FMU (including patient counselling / follow‑up) – 2.5
  • On Call – 1.8
  • General ANC – 0.5
  • Additional duties (to include some of PMRT, ATAIN review, UKOSS or Fetal Monitoring Lead) – 0.7

Qualifications and Training
  • Full Registration with GMC
  • CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or equivalence)
  • ATSM Fetal medicine or equivalent
  • ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice (or equivalent) Or ATSM in High Risk pregnancy (or equivalent)
  • High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the specialty
Management & Administrative Experience
  • Audit/Research
  • Understanding of NHS Clinical Governance, processes and resource constraints
  • Familiarity with service organisation and development
  • Familiarity within issues of service organisation and development
  • Experience of knowledge of / contribution to National Audit and Assurance processes - eg UKOSS, National Pregnancy in Diabetes
Teaching Experience
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
