Overview

The post is designed to share the responsibility for the provision of diagnostic neuroradiology, head and neck services including head and neck FNA and biopsies and provision of a range of MDT and on-call services. The post holder will be primarily located at Queen\'s/ King George Hospital, Romford, but may require working at Barking CDC at Barking and St. George\'s CDC at Hornchurch. The post holder is expected to:

  • share an office space, secretarial support with another colleague with access to a PACS reporting station.
  • provide diagnostic neuroradiology, head and neck services across trust sites.
  • report cross-sectional images performed on the MRI and CT scanners at the CDC centres, King George\'s and Queen\'s Hospital.
  • support head and neck FNA and biopsies.
  • contribute to the general duty roster and hot reporting sessions.
  • contribute to the specialist MDTs with other colleagues in rotation.
  • participate regularly in the mandatory department meetings
  • share an on-call commitment equally with existing diagnostic neuroradiology consultants.
  • have, a PC and in addition a reporting workstation for remote access to images for on-call purposes.
Job responsibilities

We are a Neuroscience centre catering to a large population serving North-east London and are a referral centre for neurosurgery for other trusts in Essex as well. We see a large number of neurosurgical including neuro-oncology, neurology patients. There are weekly Neuro-oncology, Neurology, MS, Head and neck, Skull base, Thyroid and Spine MDTs which are shared amongst specialist Radiologists.

We have recently invested in a 3T scanner with advanced neuroimaging capabilities such as Perfusion, Spectroscopy, CSF flow, DTI and it is desirable that the candidate has experience with advanced imaging modalities.

The successful candidate is expected to report range cross-sectional neuro and head and neck radiology scans performed on the new MRI and CT scanners at the CDC as well as scans performed on the MRI and CT scanners at King George\'s and Queen\'s Hospital which includes A/E, inpatients and neuro ITU patients.

It is desirable that the candidate has experience with advanced imaging modalities such as Perfusion, Spectroscopy, Functional MRI to expand the service as we have recently acquired a 3T MRI with all the facilities.

Job responsibilities

We have a dedicated interventional neuroradiology service and provide mechanical thrombectomies, aneurysm coiling and stenting etc. We also have invested in Brainomix AI for CTA and CT perfusion. Although neurointerventional skills are not required for this post, the candidate should be able to report CT and MRI Head and Neck angiograms and CT Perfusions independently to support the service.

There is a separate diagnostic neuro on-call service and is consultant led, and the on-call consultant is expected to report neuro urgent AE and in patient CT scans from 17:00 to 20:00 and 8:00 to 9:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 18:00 on weekends.

We are also a treatment site for thyroid and head and neck malignancies. For head and neck malignancies radiotherapy and oncology treatment is provided in Queens hospital. Head and neck surgeries are done in conjunction with Barts and UCL. There is a large caseload of head and neck and thyroid ultrasounds and FNA/Biopsy requests, and candidate is expected to be competent in them. We also provide alcohol ablation service for thyroid cysts.
