Substantive Consultant Medical Oncologist (Breast)

10 Programmed Activity contract. The post-holder will work with medical and clinical oncology colleagues at the Royal Free, Chase Farm and Barnet health units and will be essential for service provision as well as development of oral SACT clinics. The successful candidate should have experience working within a multidisciplinary team and broad Medical Oncology experience, with a focus on breast management. Main duties of the job

  1. Join the oncology team at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust (RFL) as a 10PA Permanent consultant in breast cancer.
  2. Develop and support the breast medical oncology services at the Royal Free, Chase Farm and Barnet health units.
  3. Lead the development of oral SACT clinics across RFL health units.
  4. Lead clinical trials in breast cancer.
  5. Attend the weekly tumour-specific breast MDTs.
  6. Take responsibility for the designated clinical workload including all relevant MDMs, out-patient clinics, and inpatient reviews.
  7. Participate in the consultant on-call rota for oncology at Royal Free health unit (1 in 18).
  8. Provide postgraduate teaching for junior staff.
  9. Provide clinical supervision for specialist registrars.
  10. Participate in undergraduate medical student teaching.
  11. Comply with all clinical governance processes and procedures of the Trust.
  12. Comply with Patients’ Charter and purchasers’ requirements.
  13. Act as departmental audit lead and participate in medical audit as per Royal College of Physicians guidelines.
  14. Maintain Continuing Professional Development accreditation as per Royal College of Physicians guidelines.
  15. Participate in the Trust appraisal programme and GMC revalidation processes.

Monday – RFH: 09:00-14:00 Clinic; 1.25 PAs; DCC: 14:00-15:00 Clinic admin 0.25 PAs; 15:00-17:00 Metastatic MDT 0.5 PAs; DCC.

Tuesday – CFH: 09:00-13:00 CF clinic 1 PA; 13:00-17:00 CF clinic 1 PA; DCC.

Wednesday – RFH: 08:00-11:00 EBC MDT 0.75 PAs; 11:00-13:00 Clinic admin 0.5 PAs; 13:00-17:00 SPA: Audit lead 1 PA; SPA.

Thursday – BGH: 08:30-12:30 SPA 1 PA; 13:00-17:00 BGH Clinic 1 PA; DCC 17:00-18:00 Clinic admin 0.25 PAs; DCC.

Friday – RFH: 09:00-11:00 SFU MDT 0.5 PAs; 11:00-14:00 SFU Clinic 0.75 PAs; DCC; SPA 2 PAs; Inpatient 0.36 PAs; 10.11 total PAs.

The on-call commitment for this role is 1 in 18 (category B rota) for oncological inpatient management/attending system. SPA activity includes: Oral SACT lead.

Person specification

Education

Essential criteria

  • MRCP or equivalent medical degree
  • Full GMC Registration
  • CCST or CCT in Clinical or Medical Oncology and on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT at time of interview

Desirable criteria

  • Post Graduate degree
