Overview

Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Consultant Radiologist with a subspecialty interest in Breast and Gynaecological Imaging. This full-time position (10 PA) involves delivering high-quality imaging services across breast, gynaecological, and general radiology settings within a dynamic radiology team.

Responsibilities
  • Breast Imaging: Participation in breast one-stop clinics, advanced procedures such as vacuum-assisted biopsies (VAM), breast MRI, contrast-enhanced mammography, and reporting duties. Active involvement in benign and malignant breast multidisciplinary meetings (MDMs).
  • Gynaecological Imaging: Reporting gynaecological MRI, including advanced studies such as placenta imaging, and participation in benign and malignant gynaecological MDMs.
  • General Imaging: Supporting acute and outpatient imaging services, including plain film reporting, CT, spinal MRI, and general ultrasound (including TVUS), with involvement in acute and oncological imaging (staging CT and MRI spine reporting).
About us

The Department of Radiology is part of the Clinical Imaging and Medical Physics (CLIMP) Directorate within the Integrated and Specialist Medicine (ISM) clinical group. It is led by Joint Clinical Directors, supported by a General Manager and Head of Nursing. The Radiology Department's management team includes a Clinical Lead Radiologist and a Head of Radiology Services. The Directorate contributes to the Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) through the Imaging and Biomedical Engineering Clinical Academic Group. Imaging services are delivered across St Thomas' Hospital, Guy's Hospital, and Evelina Children’s Hospital, with a fully integrated RIS and PACS (Sectra). The department has video-conferencing and PACS links with regional hospitals for multidisciplinary reviews and an asset base exceeding £25 million, performing over 500,000 imaging examinations annually (including ~88,000 CTs).

Job responsibilities
  • The postholder will work across multiple sites as determined by the senior management team and service requirements. The role comprises 10 programmed activities, including clinical duties, teaching and training radiology registrars, clinical fellows, medical students, and allied health professionals, participation in leadership, quality improvement, and clinical governance as part of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), and contributing to the on-call rota with potential evening and weekend work.

Professional qualifications

  • Independent performance and reporting of all general diagnostic imaging; subspecialty independent reporting of Gynaecological and Breast Imaging
Desirable
  • Completion of Breast/Gynaecological Radiology Fellowship programme
  • Experience of Independent MDM work
  • Leadership skills and ability to motivate a team
Audit Management and IT
  • Understand clinical governance and audit in a successful department; management and IT skills; understanding of audit principles
  • Desirable: specific audits in Breast/Gynaecological imaging; transformational experience in Clinical Radiology

  • Understand the importance of research in Breast/Gynaecological imaging; experience teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, and junior medical staff
  • Desirable: published Breast/Gynaecological research; formal teaching qualification; innovative imaging research
Leadership / Management skills
  • Essential: leadership, clear communication, accountability, interpersonal skills, teamwork, staff management, finance knowledge
  • Desirable: leadership experience in NHS transformation and change management
