Overview

A Vacancy at South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly developed low secure forensic learning disability service based on Turner ward, Shaftesbury Clinic, South West London & St George’s Mental Health Trust. The forensic service sits within the Specialist Service Line of the Trust. The post holder will be joining a skilled, motivated and innovative multidisciplinary team and will be offered excellent CPD opportunities. The role is being offered on a permanent basis, with a tailored management leadership programme for those who wish to pursue this. A relocation package is available (up to £8,000; terms and conditions apply).

The post-holder will provide medical leadership to Turner LDA ward, a 12-bedded low secure ward within the new Shaftesbury building at Springfield Hospital. The Consultant will work closely with the ward manager and the wider service to ensure safe, efficient and effective service delivery that meets the Trust’s Key Performance Indicators and the SLP Forensic PC objectives.

From January 2022 this unit will be housed in a state-of-the-art secure building on the Springfield Hospital site. The ward has been adapted to provide the optimal environment to deliver care and treatment to patients with intellectual (learning) disabilities who may also have Autism. The service is provided by a full specialist multidisciplinary team equipped to assess and treat coexisting mental disorders in this group and to provide appropriate therapies.

Responsibilities

• Carry overall responsibility for day-to-day clinical care, risk assessment and risk management, and treatment and rehabilitation-focused care delivered by the team.
• Provide medical leadership to the team on Turner LDA ward and work with the ward manager and wider service to ensure safe, effective service delivery.
• Collaborate with the service Matron, Associate Clinical Director, Clinical Director and, where necessary, the Medical Director and Chief Executive for robust support and guidance.

The Consultant will be expected to provide strong medical leadership to take the service forward and to participate in a permanent role alongside a tailored leadership programme. The ward operates within a forward-thinking forensic provider collaborative aiming to improve patient pathways and outcomes by delivering high-quality care in better environments.

Location and environment

Springfield University Hospital, Tooting. The largest site with 19 wards at Springfield Village following a £150m investment into two new world-class mental health facilities.
