The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Mid-Market Construction Underwriter to join our well-established New Business team in the south-east. Working predominantly with both our regional and global brokers, the ideal candidate will provide underwriting expertise and first-class service to brokers and customers, with a proven track record of delivering profitable growth, managing complex portfolios, building strong business relationships and meeting business objectives.

What will you be doing?

You’ll be working with your team and reporting into a Business Manager, while interacting with brokers and intermediaries daily. You will provide a standout service experience for customers and stakeholders and be responsible for delivering quality and timely solutions. This includes taking ownership of your workload and supporting colleagues to deliver our collective workload. If you spot ways to improve processes, we’d love you to hear about them to boost effectiveness and efficiency.

Key responsibilities
  • Develop profitable business with a group of Construction brokers & customers.
  • Manage clients and broker relationships, interacting with risk managers.
  • Responsible for overall service proposition on key broker accounts.
  • Underwrite and negotiate insurance contracts.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant systems, products, processes and procedures to provide a first-class experience for customers (both internal and external).
  • Engage in ongoing self-development and learning, coaching others where appropriate.
  • Promote continuous improvement and process efficiency.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive team culture.
What are we looking for?

Ideally, you will be an experienced Construction Underwriter looking for the next step or a new challenge at a large, global insurer. Mid-Market experience would be beneficial, dealing with CAR, Public / Products Liability and domestic Employers Liability insurance programmes. Strong communication and influencing skills are required. Knowledge and understanding of industry trends is a must. CII qualifications or progress toward them is also desired.
