Overview
The role will work on the HS2 project. The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract, including twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and site compounds. This position requires leading and coordinating construction activities with a focus on safety, quality, schedule, cost control and stakeholder engagement.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, lead, manage, supervise, train and mentor the construction team to optimise their work contribution.
- Review contractual agreements and develop design, working methods, processes, procedures, programme and forecast costs with the Project Manager, Agents, Works Superintendent and Subcontractors / Suppliers.
- Develop and review programmes and forecast budgets, assess actual programme and productivity, review weekly, take action where appropriate, and report changes to the Project Manager and QS department.
- Develop procurement strategies, understand subcontractors contract conditions, develop job-specific subcontract conditions and manage the subcontractors account with the Commercial team and Agents.
- Ensure timely requisitioning of resources to ensure correct specification and availability so as not to impede the construction programme.
- Maintain clear communication with Technical Assurance, QA and Commercial teams regarding non-conformances and client/designer/RE instructions; keep comprehensive records of resources used on additional works.
- Ensure that inspection and test plans, risk assessments and method statements for the control of works are reviewed, approved and adhered to.
- Keep abreast of developments in the professional field.
- Produce monthly reports for financial forecasting, monitoring and control of project cost.
- Interface with internal and external stakeholders including preconstruction planning; act as a key point of contact for clients regarding project progress.
- Set the highest example for Health and Safety requirements and promote a culture of safety on the project.
- Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, processes and statutory requirements and ensure that these requirements are implemented on the project where applicable within the discipline.
- Participate in team activities and networks (e.g., women, military, LGBT+ networks) and engage in cultural and community events where suitable.
Qualifications
- Degree level qualification (or equivalent) in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering with vocational engineering training.
- Experience managing and leading construction teams.
- Understanding of engineering principles.
- Knowledge and understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training.
- Extensive technical knowledge of construction techniques and best practices, including shaft construction, piling, reinforced concrete or Network Rail possession works.
- Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, document control system).
- Relevant CSCS Card.
- Training in Health & Safety and Environmental management.
- Evidence in your application and at interview of meeting the minimum job criteria and person specification for the role.
