Configuration & Data Management Specialist

Location: Yeovil or Bristol, UK

Working Pattern: Mainly onsite (limited remote working may be available)

Contract Length: 12 months

Start Date: January 2026

Rate: £40-£50 per hour (dependent on experience)

Security Clearance: BPSS required (eligibility for SC required)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Configuration & Data Management Specialist to provide configuration and data management expertise across fixed and rotary wing defence programmes. This role supports engineering, programme, and supplier teams to ensure configuration control, data integrity, and compliance with contractual, regulatory, and security requirements throughout the product lifecycle. The position is predominantly office-based due to the nature of the programmes supported. This role supports both rotary and fixed wing defence programmes.

Key Responsibilities
Configuration Management
  • Support the planning and implementation of Configuration and Data Management activities across programmes
  • Assist with the deployment of standardised configuration management processes across the organisation
  • Identify risks, issues, and opportunities, supporting the development of mitigation plans
  • Support the standardisation of configuration management toolsets, including security and access controls
  • Interface with bid and programme teams to ensure configuration management requirements are embedded at contract initiation and review
  • Contribute to Supplier Statements of Work for Configuration and Data Management proposals
  • Provide input into budgeting and forecasting activities related to configuration management
Programme‑Specific Configuration Management
  • Deliver Configuration and Data Management activities in line with programme contractual requirements
  • Liaise with customers and suppliers to agree joint working processes and procedures
  • Support programme control boards, ensuring consistency across programmes
  • Ensure delivery of control board outputs and timely closure of actions
  • Provide configuration management support at design and programme reviews
  • Schedule, track, and manage Supplier Data Requirements Lists (SDRLs)
  • Ensure timely review, disposition, and approval of supplier data
Data Management
  • Track and report data transmissions to ensure compliance with contractual, regulatory, and configuration requirements
  • Manage customer and supplier data deliverables
  • Ensure adherence to export compliance, licensing agreements, security, and intellectual property regulations
  • Support internal audits and reviews
  • Maintain virtual environments used for sharing technical data across multiple sites, including offline backup systems
  • Review technical data for security, trade control, and IP markings prior to approval
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Good knowledge of contractual configuration management regulations and international standards
  • Strong understanding of configuration management and programme management principles
  • Commercial and financial awareness
  • General knowledge of design, test, and manufacturing processes
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing planning methods
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including engineering, operations, training, customer support, and procurement
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and problem‑solving skills
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload
  • Good level of IT literacy
Desirable
  • CMII Practitioner certification or equivalent experience
