Job summary

A leading recruitment firm is seeking an experienced Component Engineer to support major UK nuclear programmes in Derby. Contract Opportunity: Component Engineer (Nuclear Sector)

Location: Derby (Hybrid Potential)
IR35: Inside
Clearance: SC required

We are seeking an experienced Component Engineer to support major UK nuclear programmes, including submarine systems, existing nuclear generation assets, decommissioning projects and high‑integrity structures. This role focuses on the design, assessment, substantiation and integration of critical components within safety‑critical systems.

What You'll Do
  • Support the development, authoring and review of engineering documentation for component design, performance and safety compliance.
  • Review and approve Safety Justifications, Design Substantiation Reports and Detailed Design Requirements for components such as pressure vessels, piping systems, pumps and valves.
  • Produce and review safety analyses including FMEAs, hazard reports and system safety checklists.
  • Work closely with project management teams to ensure technical deliverables are achieved to programme requirements.
  • Contribute to the delivery of safe, reliable, cost‑effective component solutions within high‑integrity environments.
What You Bring
  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in component or mechanical design within nuclear or other safety‑critical sectors.
  • Knowledge of MoD standards or submarine‑programme experience (advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of material selection, performance standards and nuclear design codes (e.g., ASME Section III Div 5, RCC‑M, ASME, EN standards).
  • Awareness of in‑service maintenance and inspection requirements for nuclear components.
  • Excellent documentation skills, including process flow diagrams, work instructions and technical reports.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on‑site in Derby when required.
