Complex Need Support Officer

Location: Llandeilo

Hours: 8:30 – 3:30 Monday to Friday

Salary: £446.90 per week

About The Role

An alternative provision unit in the Llandeilo area is looking for a strong, confident, and trusting individual to provide 1:1 support and small group mentoring to individuals ranging from 11 to 19 years old, all of whom are on the autistic spectrum, some individuals have severe or profound learning difficulties. A successful candidate will help to create a positive, inclusive environment – supporting the pupils to achieve their full potential both academically and personally.

The provision is a purpose-built centre for children and young people with autism – they have a variety of facilities to suit the needs of each individual including a sensory room, a purpose built flat to prepare them for life after education and their outside space includes a bike track and a purpose-built park.

Key Responsibilities

As a complex needs support officer, the successful candidate will need to engage and support both the teacher and students within the classroom as well as have other responsibilities each day.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group-support for learners with Autism
  • Help the students to use the workstations and work together collectively
  • Assist the students to therapy
  • Assist students with their individual learning plans and tailored interventions
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing and positive learning environment
  • Assist the teacher in individualised lesson planning and delivery
  • Aid students with their IDP – to ensure they receive appropriate support to help them succeed in education
What We Are Looking For
  • Experience working within SEN settings – specifically with individuals who are on the Autism Spectrum
  • A strong minded individual able to adapt to changing behaviour
  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to follow teacher guidance when given
  • A compassionate, approachable and proactive personality – someone who takes initiative and supports the team without needing prompting
  • A candidate who is confident in managing challenging behaviour
  • A valid Enhanced DBS (child only or able to obtain one)
  • A full UK driving license
