Job description
Join us as a Community Teacher : Empower Futures!

Do you want to work for a company where wellbeing is more than a word? It’s a commitment to people as much as to their profession. At Progress Schools that’s our approach.

Our top‑notch benefits go beyond the basics: discounted gym memberships, a free wellbeing app with fitness, yoga, mindfulness resources, and dedicated counselling support. Because your passion is with pupils, not paperwork, we minimise surplus admin and give work‑life balance priority: generous holidays, extra leave for foster carers and flexibility wherever possible.

When you thrive, our students do too. We invest in your personal and professional growth as much as in the young people we serve.

But that’s not all, we also offer:

  • Professional Development: Support for professional qualifications, in‑house training, including paid qualifications. Last year we invested approx. £3.5k per colleague!
  • Financial Security: Death in Service Insurance providing four times your salary.
  • Family‑Friendly Policies: Enhanced Maternity/Paternity Leave.
  • Health and Wellbeing Cashback: Medicash for you and your dependants, covering eye tests, optical, dental, prescriptions, and holistic treatments up to £900 annually.
  • Recognition Awards: Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Recognition Awards.
  • Referral Bonus: £500 for referring top talent.
  • Exclusive Discounts: MiRewards benefits platform, offering loads of discounts and rewards.
  • Weekly drop‑ins with Senior Leaders: Connect, clarify and communicate with weekly drop‑ins with our Managing Director and organisation SLT.
  • Group Connection: Annual Group conference and a comprehensive benefits review.
Who are we looking for from you?
  • Core Teaching Qualifications: Hold a teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS) or be willing to work towards it.
  • Academic Background: Degree or equivalent with Maths and English at least to Level 2. Specialist teaching qualification in a chosen subject is desirable.
  • Experience: Experience teaching across the secondary age range; proven track record as a creative and adaptable teacher who inspires and motivates students. Familiarity with virtual learning environments is desirable.
  • Management & Organisation Skills: Strong administrative and organisational abilities. Capable of managing student behaviour effectively and committed to high levels of pastoral care in an alternative education setting.
  • Partnership & Community Engagement: Proven experience collaborating with parents, community organisations, and stakeholders to support students with diverse and challenging needs.
  • Knowledge: Solid understanding of equality of opportunity, safeguarding, child protection, and inclusion—particularly within alternative education environments that serve vulnerable young people.
  • Problem‑Solving: Quick to identify and resolve student challenges, with effective follow‑up and individualised support strategies.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to build meaningful engagement with students, parents/carers, colleagues, and external partners.
  • Promotion of Values: Committed to promoting equality, diversity, safeguarding, wellbeing, and British values across all areas of work.
  • Commitment to Excellence: A positive role model who sets and maintains high expectations for student behaviour and academic outcomes, while fostering an inclusive, supportive learning culture.
  • Ideally we need someone with strong SEN and EHCP experience.
