Community Staff Nurse - Wakefield Immunisation Team

Please note this job is based in Wakefield and requires travel in and around the surrounding area.

Do you have a passion for working with children and young people to improve immunisation outcomes?

If so, then why not come and join the Wakefield School Aged Immunisation Service (SAIS), as we deliver and develop the service within the West Yorkshire Vaccination and Immunisation Collaboration (WYVIC).

You will be part of an innovative, dynamic, fun and supportive team of Nurses, Immunisation Support Workers and Administrators working collaboratively to deliver immunisations to the children and young people of Wakefield. The team are dedicated to improving immunisation rates across the area including children who are hard to reach or no longer in mainstream education.

As a SAIS Nurse you will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to have positive conversations regarding immunisations with young people, parents, and school-based staff; you will be flexible to change and able to work across the district at our immunisation sessions held within school settings and designated community clinics. As we work in a diverse community, excellent communication skills are a must.

You must be RN qualified and have current NMC registration.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will support the delivery of the school aged immunisation programme and at times respond to disease outbreaks.

The service delivers vaccines across the district in a variety of settings including mainstream schools, SEN schools, Pupil referral units and community clinics.

You will be responsible for maintaining the safe storage, transportation, and administration of vaccines in accordance with the cold chain and Trust guidance.

Promoting vaccine uptake by providing information to parents and children as well as gaining consents is a key responsibility of this role.

This position is mainly school and office based but in school holidays you will be involved in clinics around the area in local family hubs.

Job responsibilities

Job Overview Continued-

Previous experience in immunising would be advantageous but individuals with a keen interest and potential will also be considered as we offer a comprehensive induction and training package for any identified learning and development needs.

The role is 30 hours a week. Our core working hours are 8:30am 4:30pm Monday to Friday, however some flexibility outside of these hours is required to transport vaccines to school where necessary.
