Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust is on an exciting journey with all divisions committed to doing things better, with more efficiency as we update, modernise, and advance. We have entered a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire (UHN). As part of this collaborative approach, there may be a requirement to work across both the Kettering and Northampton hospital sites, depending on the needs of the service.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome all patients and their family members into the department in a professional manner, making them feel comfortable and at ease and direct them to the appropriate area.
  • Answer telephone enquiries in an appropriate manner, relaying information to patients and midwives where necessary.
  • Maintain good written and verbal communication between all departments and outside agencies.
  • Use the computerised patient management system (E-Camis) to access patient details, update information and make antenatal and postnatal appointments.
  • Photocopy and scan documents/notes as required and manage the department post.
  • Access and print ICE requests in readiness for clinics.
  • Help maintain hub stock supplies.
  • Inform Estates/Electronics about any maintenance issues required at the hub.
  • Ensure blood samples are collected and delivered to the hospital in a timely manner.
  • Assist in the training of new members of staff.
  • These duties and responsibilities may be changed in accordance with the needs of the Directorate and the post holder may be required to provide support to other areas within the department as required and to carry out any other relevant duties that may be requested.
  • Provide reception cover at different midwifery hubs (Far Cotton, Billing Road, Moulton Park and Danetre Hospital) and on site at Northampton General Hospital as required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative in a flexible environment.
  • Competent in using IT systems.
  • Flexible approach to tasks in a changing environment and own transport is preferred as you may be required to travel between hubs.
