Main duties of the job

The role involves working within the community as an autonomous practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team. It also involves maintaining a good relationship with other members of the team ensuring the women receive safe care.

You will need to be able to provide high quality women-centred maternity care, effective leadership, optimise teaching opportunities and give support to all grades of staff; planning and directing activities to provide the optimal standard of care.

The role involves giving appropriate education to women and their families and giving necessary care, advice and supervision throughout the pregnancy continuum. You will be required to ensure appropriate referral for mother or child, as required to other agencies and specialist midwifery team and to give necessary care advice and supervision to women and their families, wherever possible/appropriate.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community healthcare premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.
