Job summary

A leading contractor in the Energy sector is seeking Commissioning Operators / Shift Team Leaders for a project starting in December 2025 in Essex. Candidates should have 2-5 years’ experience as Control Room Operators and knowledge of power plant systems, ideally in Energy from Waste. This position offers a minimum 4-month contract and requires relevant safety training certifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years as a Control Room Operator (CRO), preferably in plants utilizing waste as fuel.
  • Proven knowledge of power plant equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain shift logs and maintenance regimes.
  • Optimise processes in collaboration with the Commissioning Team.
  • Oversee both the client shift personnel and the work performed by suppliers.
  • Coordinate with project team members including Commissioning Manager.
  • Record operational events in the shift logbook.
  • Report variations and issues to the Commissioning Manager.

Skills

Supervisory experience

Education

Job Overview

Astute's Power team is partnering with a leading principal contractor in the Energy from Waste sector to recruit Commissioning Operators / Commissioning Shift Team Leaders for a project in Essex starting in December 2025.

Key Responsibilities
  • Update and maintain shift logs and maintenance regimes.
  • Optimise processes in collaboration with the Commissioning Team.
  • Oversee both the client shift personnel and the work performed by suppliers during operation.
  • Liaise and coordinate with other project team members, in particular the Commissioning Manager and Commissioning Lead Engineers.
  • Record all operational events in the shift logbook according to protocol.
  • Report any variations and issues to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Power generation experience with minimum 2 to 5 years as a Control Room Operator (CRO), preferably in plants utilizing waste as fuel, mass burn, or fossil fuel technology, with proven knowledge of power plant equipment and systems.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in English.
