Job Description Summary

Roles
  • To ensure all site commissioning and installation activities are carried out to the highest standards of Health, Safety and Quality and in a manner that safeguards the Environment.
  • To ensure that all site commissioning activities are undertaken in full compliance with GE Grid and client policies and procedures, in addition to the UK and international legislation.
  • To test, commission and service installed primary and secondary equipment during construction and in-service substation operations.
  • To effectively manage and supervise staff in order to execute projects in line with Client and GE expectations, programmes and budget.
  • To ensure accurate on-site test records, reports and quality documentation are created, maintained and circulated in accordance with GE internal governance and GE quality plans.
  • To effectively supervise, train and mentor other assigned commissioning staff in the role of Site Commissioning Engineer.
  • Able to travel throughout UK and globally as and when required.
  • Able to on offshore windfarms.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Operations
  • Promote safe working practices and continual improvement in site safety culture.
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient testing and commissioning of substation equipment ensuring that agreed work is carried out in accordance with the pre-set time scales and costs.
  • Effectively undertake operational responsibilities for the daily management and setting to work of site commissioning field resources in order to maximise the potential for successful Project delivery.
  • Responsible for the preparation, creation and issue of Site documentation including but not limited to RAMS (Risk and Method Statement), NCR's (Non-conformance Report), TQ's (Technical Queries) in accordance with approved processes and procedures.
  • Informing Site Manager / Project Engineer of site non‑compliances.
  • Responsible for reporting to the Site Manager / Project Manager and Commissioning Manager.
  • Responsible for enacting the role of LV Authorised Person (Advanced) when applying GE LV Permit systems.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge and experience in the field of Site Commissioning.
  • Capable of working independently in problem solving and decision making.
Deliverables
  • Responsible for organising work to an agreed programme and to execute the programme within the pre-set time scales and costs.
  • Demonstrate adequate skills in interpretation, optimisation and application of company policies and / or own discipline to achieve key deliverables.

Education and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / HND in Electrical Engineering or Equivalent.

Experience
  • Experience in the testing and commissioning of HV Power systems equipment.
  • Experience in activities related to the testing and validation of an equipment, facility or plant in accordance with the design objectives or specifications for operational use.
  • Experience in SCADA systems as well as technical skills using PC / DS Agile/ Aview software.
  • Experience in communication with Protection and control system as well 3rd party IEDs system integration.
  • Site experience, working at height and working in a construction environment.
  • Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both internally and externally.
  • 5 years' experience in testing and Commissioning of substation equipment (Generation, transmission and distribution).
  • Knowledge and experience of working in a HV Substation environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of working on Offshore Windfarm environments.
  • Good knowledge and experience of IEC61850 protocol, Modbus, IEC101, IEC104 and IEC103.
  • Knowledge & experience of GE Micom and Multilin products will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge & experience working with various test equipment such as Omicron, Sverker, Programma and Megger.
