Overview

We’re recruiting on behalf of a well‑established leisure marine business operating across both sailing and motor yachts. Due to continued growth, they’re now looking to add a Commissioning & After‑sales Technician with a strong sailing background to complement their existing technical team and strengthen in‑house sailing expertise. This role would suit someone whose core experience sits firmly within sailing yachts, and who enjoys being the go‑to person for sail‑specific systems, commissioning and sea trials, while still working as part of a broader, multi‑skilled aftersales function.

Role Responsibilities
  • Commissioning new yachts across the UK and Europe, with a particular focus on sailing yachts.
  • Managing the day‑to‑day commissioning process from arrival through to owner handover.
  • Carrying out arrival inspections including unwrapping vessels, checking against factory specifications, fitting loose equipment and identifying warranty issues.
  • Testing onboard systems with a strong emphasis on sailing‑specific equipment, including:
    • Standing and running rigging
    • Mast, boom and deck hardware
    • Winches, furling systems and sail handling equipment
    • Navigation, electrical and digital switching systems
  • Conducting sea trials under sail to verify sailing performance and system operation.
  • Overseeing onboard contractors, ensuring work is completed to a high technical and finish standard.
  • Recording defects and progress using a digital reporting system, supported by clear technical summaries and photographs.
  • Delivering detailed owner handovers, including sailing systems demonstrations and sea trials in line with company guidelines.
Aftersales Responsibilities
  • Acting as the sailing systems specialist within the aftersales team.
  • Providing technical support to sailing yacht owners and crew.
  • Delivering refresher training, sailing systems guidance and boat handling support.
  • Diagnosing and repairing warranty issues across the UK and Europe, particularly relating to sailing systems.
  • Producing clear technical reports and photographic evidence for warranty claims.
  • Completing annual inspections in line with factory protocols.
  • Supporting shared departmental tasks and maintaining good housekeeping.
  • Working in line with company health & safety policies.
We’re Looking for Someone Who
  • Has recent, hands‑on experience within the leisure marine industry, with sailing yachts as their primary background.
  • Is confident handling sailing yachts and carrying out sea trials under sail (RYA qualifications advantageous).
  • Has strong knowledge of modern sailing yacht systems, including rigging, sail handling and onboard electrical systems.
  • Brings a practical, detail‑focused and solutions‑led approach.
  • Communicates confidently with owners, crew, contractors and internal teams.
  • Holds a full UK driving licence.
