About the role

A Commis Chef will assist the Chef de Partie in preparing food and performing basic cooking tasks, working in different kitchen areas such as vegetables, fish and meat, and sauces on a six‑month rotation programme. The role includes supporting all chefs to manage catering services, participating in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments, preparing nutritional food and beverages to a high standard, and preparing special‑diet meals as required.

Responsibilities

• Support all chefs to manage and deliver all catering services throughout the home, ensuring resident choice, dignity, confidentiality, and safety are maintained.
• Participate in meetings with residents and Heads of Departments to discuss and agree on catering functions across the home and address residents’ special needs or dietary requirements, including cultural and religious preferences.
• Prepare nutritional food and beverages promptly and in accordance with agreed mealtimes.
• Prepare special diet meals as needed and as directed by the chefs.

Qualifications

• Hold a catering qualification such as City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or NVQ or equivalent.
• Hold a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
• Have a minimum of one year of catering experience.
• Demonstrate compassion and commitment to the delivery of high-quality culinary services to residents.
• Be adaptive and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities at short notice.

• DBS Disclosure check (cost met by Avery Healthcare).
• Proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
