Job Role: Commercial Gas Engineer
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: Starting Salary of £43,000 + 1.5x Overtime and On Call Payments + Company Van and Fuel Card
Location: East Midlands / Derbyshire / Leicestershire

Mainstay Recruitment are recruiting for an experienced Commercial Gas Service and Repair Engineer to join our clients growing team. This new role has been created to support the increasing demand for services across Derbyshire and Leicestershire.

The Role

You will be responsible for servicing and maintaining a wide range of gas appliances, from domestic boilers to industrial heating systems. Most of your work will take place within the social housing sector, including extra care facilities and properties supporting vulnerable residents. The role requires flexibility and adaptability, as you will also carry out water‑related repairs and maintenance when required. While the main focus is on service and maintenance, you will also provide support to the installations team. A sound understanding of commercial equipment installations is essential, though hands‑on installation experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Complete reactive maintenance tasks efficiently and proactively identify areas for improvement.
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance on commercial gas and plumbing systems, including boilers, water heaters, and pipework.
  • Diagnose and repair system faults quickly to minimise downtime.
  • Ensure compliance with current gas safety regulations and standards.
  • Conduct safety checks, leak and emissions tests as necessary.
  • Communicate clearly with clients, providing explanations and advice as needed.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and ensure timely submission.
  • Provide emergency engineering support as required under Gas Safe guidelines.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Current Gas Safety and Commercial Gas Tickets: CCN1, COCN1, CENWAT, CPA1, DAH1, CODNCO1, CORT1, ICPN1, CIGA1, and TPCP1A.
  • F‑GAS and catering qualifications are desirable.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Experience with commercial plumbing and gas systems, equipment, and controls.
  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • L8 Awareness required; SFG20 knowledge desirable.
  • Electrical skills or relevant qualifications are advantageous.
Salary and Benefits
  • Basic salary from £43,000 per annum.
  • Pay review on successful completion of probation.
  • Annual pay review each March.
  • Participation in a 5/2 on‑call rota, (hours paid at 1.5x standard rate) for out‑of‑hours work.
  • 28 days annual leave (including bank holidays), plus an additional birthday day off after one year of service.
  • Private medical insurance after successful completion of probation.
