Job description

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated, caring and creative people to join us and work within an exciting and fast‑paced environment that provides high‑quality addictions and recovery care to a diverse service user group. We are recruiting a Band 7 Clinical Team Leader to lead the multi‑disciplinary team in Richmond, clinically supervising a mixture of nurses and recovery workers who provide assessments, care planning, treatment and support to people with drug and alcohol issues to promote health, independence and recovery. The team also works with volunteers and peer mentors to enhance the offer.

To undertake clinical and management responsibility for the nurses and recovery workers in Richmond Community Drug and Alcohol Service and have an operational overview of day‑to‑day running of the service, ensuring it is safe and effective, meets all performance targets and achieves positive outcomes with clients.

The Team Leader will, as part of a senior management team, oversee the ongoing development of recovery‑focused and evidence‑based interventions to meet the needs of a group of service users with multiple complex physical, psychological and social needs across Richmond. Effective leadership, change management, proactive communication and partnership development with other services across the borough and within the Consortium are essential.

Currently the Richmond service is based in Twickenham, very close to the high street and local amenities, and less than a ten‑minute walk from the local train station. The Richmond team joins Wandsworth colleagues at our Battersea site (close to Clapham Junction) for weekly training, and travel is reimbursed for this. We champion Freedom To Speak Up locally and actively maintain an inclusive and anti‑racist stance within the workplace and the work we do.

SLaM Trust headquarters is located at Denmark Hill, less than 5 minutes from the train station (zone 2). We provide services and operate across other locations such as the London boroughs of Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; we also provide substance misuse services for the residents of Bexley and Lambeth and at King’s College Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strong and decisive leadership and management of all staff within RCDAS, managing the staff team and day‑to‑day service issues.
  • Lead induction, team building and retention of staff, and deputise at designated times in the absence of the Borough Lead.
  • Ensure regular clinical and line management supervision, appraisal and teaching of staff to maintain high standards of client care and identify opportunities for staff development and training.
  • Facilitate and manage change whilst maintaining a high‑quality effective service.
  • Take responsibility for the management of a defined caseload of clients with complex needs and facilitate groups or other elements of front‑line service delivery; at times deliver nurse‑specific interventions such as vaccinations and, where appropriately qualified, provide non‑medical prescribing within Trust guidelines.
  • Ensure service information requirements are met through the production of required statistics and data, and support effective Trust, local commissioning and national reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure clinical records/practice meet CAG, Trust, CQC standards and national policies/guidance such as safeguarding adults and children, PHE recommendations and NICE guidance.
  • Organise, attend and facilitate relevant clinical and service development team meetings as well as specific borough and CAG wide meetings.
  • Actively promote and encourage service‑user and carer involvement in the service.
  • Draught/review/evaluate clinical protocols/operational procedures to keep the service responsive to changes in practice, trends in substance use and legislation.
  • Manage human resources issues, including recruitment, selection, performance management, sickness management and related processes.
  • Hold knowledge of budgeting and prescribing costs, identify and report on cost pressures where appropriate.
  • With the Borough Lead’s support and direction, identify appropriate development areas in collaboration with other SLaM/partner colleagues, review the Service Contract/emerging strategies and recommend improvements. Maintain effective links and lines of communication with partnership agencies, Trust departments, commissioners, CCG and other local stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective investigation of complaints and serious untoward incidents in consultation with relevant SLaM staff, identify system learning and implement changes.
