Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, Research Nurse to join our Paediatric Research Team. The post holder will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) portfolio clinical research studies within Paediatric Research. Experience managing research studies within the NHS is advantageous. You will be responsible for obtaining regulatory approvals, managing the implementation of research protocols and coordinating the recruitment of patients into portfolio studies to time and target, and any resultant data collection and follow-up requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to‑day running of NIHR portfolio clinical research studies within Paediatric Research.
  • Obtain regulatory approvals and manage implementation of research protocols.
  • Coordinate recruitment of patients into portfolio studies to meet time and target.
  • Manage portfolio for NIHR research studies from expressions of interest to archiving.
  • Liaise with clinical teams and support services to ensure smooth set-up and delivery of research studies.
  • Support patients participating in research studies and their carers.
  • Ensure sound financial management of research studies.
  • Evaluate patient eligibility for clinical trials, coordinate pre‑study tests, obtain results and arrange appropriate appointments according to trial protocol.
  • Act in accordance with ICH GCP, the EU Clinical Trial Directive and adhere to research governance standards.
  • Arrange collection, processing and storage of study samples.
  • Liaise with MDT members (pharmacists, radiologists, pathologists) to establish procedures for safe and smooth running of clinical trials.
  • Maintain accurate records ensuring confidentiality of information.
  • Assist in review of trial protocols, identify resource implications for the site, negotiate financial agreements and contracts, and ensure departments are reimbursed as per agreement.
  • Coordinate completion of submissions for local ethical and R&D approval and ensure other legislative requirements are met.
  • Coordinate collection, computerisation and timely completion of case report forms (CRFs).
  • Organise and coordinate the set-up of NIHR portfolio research.
