Overview
We're looking for a Clinical Psychologist on a permanent contract to join our Tier 3 weight management team at Oviva. The role welcomes both part‑time (minimum 16 hours weekly) and full‑time applicants with a flexible working pattern. You will work alongside the psychology and dietetics teams to deliver psychological therapy that supports motivation and success toward weight management goals. The service employs a mixed clinical approach, using technology such as the Oviva app and telephone coaching to provide remote care and monitor patient progress in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Deliver one‑to‑one patient weight‑management care remotely via phone, video calls or the Oviva smartphone app, focusing on changes in eating and activity behaviours rather than treating common mental health problems.
- Assess patients for psychological therapy as part of the weight‑management service, independently implementing appropriate initial assessment methods.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team (dietitians, nurses, fellow psychology team members) regarding participant care and provide specialist advice during clinical supervision sessions.
- Support professionals working within the pathway (PWPs) with complex cases and offer ad hoc training to the team as required.
- Create individual formulations based on initial screening and assessment, and provide therapeutic weight‑management and lifestyle‑change input for suitable patients alongside dietetic support.
- Conduct initial screening for binge‑eating disorder risk and discuss findings with the multidisciplinary team.
- Appropriately manage clinical risk, including safeguarding concerns, during clinical practice.
- Maintain clinical supervision and continue professional development in accordance with good practice guidelines and BPS registration requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality of information in line with the Data Protection Act and protect participant confidentiality at all times.
- Develop relevant internal or patient‑facing content for the service as needed.
Qualifications
Essential
- Confident time‑management skills and independent caseload management, including booking follow‑up appointments and calendar management.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Comfortable using technology to record and review patient notes and a willingness to learn how to use Oviva’s technology to support patients.
- A qualified Clinical Psychologist with a minimum of one year experience in weight‑management and/or bariatric settings within a mental‑health environment, or experience working with patients who have long‑term health conditions and obesity.
- An understanding of the issues many people living with obesity face, including weight stigma.
- Ability to provide supportive, empathetic, patient‑centred care to individuals with complex physical and mental health needs.
Desirable
- Experience in offering physical activity support.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team, e.g. with dietitians.
- Experience in eating disorders, diabetes, or working with people who have long‑term physical health conditions (training will be provided).
- Experience providing care remotely and using technology to assist with therapeutic goals.
Benefits
- Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in revolutionising healthcare.
- Exciting and rewarding role in a high‑growth environment.
- Training and development opportunities, including a personal learning allowance.
- Flexibility and remote working options.
- Home working allowance to set up a suitable workspace.
- Competitive salary and company pension.
- Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave.
