Job summary

A healthcare organization in Bury St Edmunds is seeking a part-time clinical role for delivering patient-centered consultations across multiple modalities. You'll be responsible for managing acute and non-urgent patient care, ensuring safe, effective prescribing following local guidelines. In this role, you will also support clinical audits and vaccination clinics. The ideal candidate should be registered with the GPhC, have a prescribing qualification and relevant acute care experience. Flexibility and exemplary communication skills are essential.

Job description

As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will deliver patient-centered consultations across various modalities.

This part-time role [25 hours per week] operates across two Bury Town Centre sites: Rock Healthcare and Knowsley Medical Centre.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake a prescribing role, managing both acute and non-urgent patient care through face-to-face and telephone consultations.

You will be responsible for safe, effective, and cost-efficient prescribing in line with local and national guidelines, while supporting wider clinical and operational activities within the practice.

Knowsley Medical Centre isin an older establishment which we have adapted and is a 10 minute walk from theRock Healthcare site.

Job responsibilities

Undertake acute and non-urgent clinical consultations, both face-to-face and via telephone.

Carry out same-day acute triage using the clinical system during contracted hours [08:00 to 18:30].

Process Electronic Prescription Service [EPS] requests accurately and efficiently.

Review and action Docman tasks, including hospital letters and other clinical correspondence.

Review pathology and blood test results, taking appropriate clinical action.

  • Conduct structured medication reviews:- Face-to-face- Via telephone- For housebound patients- For patients in nursing and residential care homes

Regularly review prescribing data to ensure clinical appropriateness and cost-effectiveness.

Prescribe in accordance withGMMMG and local prescribing guidelines.

Support clinical audits related to prescribing and medicines management.

Plan and deliver seasonal flu vaccination clinics.

Qualifications

Experience
  • Post-qualification experience in patient care within general practice and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in patient consultations and working alongside GPs.
  • Clinical pharmacy experience in a primary care setting.
  • Strong critical appraisal skills.
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding Level 3 for adults and children.
  • Experience processing blood results, managing Docman (hospital letters, SCAs), conducting medication reviews, and supporting 2-cycle audits.
  • Knowledge of QOF, local enhanced services, and contractual requirements.
  • Experience in clinical research and optimising practice income.
General
  • Maintain a professional appearance and act as an advocate for the practice.
  • Be flexible and responsive to patient needs.
  • Support medical students and other learners in the practice, including shadowing opportunities.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Conduct medication reviews, administer vaccinations, and triage acute medical issues for adults and children.
  • Undertake audits, present findings in practice meetings, and adhere to GMMC guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively within the practice to optimise income and maintain a positive workplace environment.
  • Use initiative while functioning effectively as part of the wider primary care team.
  • Liaise with local pharmacies, hospitals, secondary care providers, and the ICB MOT department.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills with all practice staff, including the reception team.
