Are you a passionate, forward‑thinking pharmacist ready to make a lasting impact?

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) Pharmacy is thrilled to announce a brand‑new Teacher Practitioner role, created in partnership with Cardiff University School of Pharmacy. This is your chance to combine advanced clinical practice with academic influence—shaping the next generation of pharmacists while driving excellence in patient care.

  • Dual Impact: Split your time between Cardiff University (2 days) and clinical pharmacy services at the Royal Gwent Hospital (RGH) site (3 days)—bringing expertise to both education and frontline healthcare.
  • Clinical Leadership: Deliver advanced clinical skills in a specialist area, while supporting innovation, improvement and best practice across our services.
  • Educational Excellence: Join our expanding team of ABUHB pharmacy educators, facilitating the delivery of a range of training programmes.
  • Academic Influence: Become an honorary member of the prestigious Cardiff University School of Pharmacy, shaping the development, delivery and assessment of the MPharm course.
Why ABUHB?

At RGH and across ABUHB, our teams are known for their supportive culture and commitment to excellence. We invest in our people, offering opportunities for development and career progression—all within a welcoming and innovative environment.

This is more than a job—it’s your opportunity to lead, inspire, and transform pharmacy education and practice.

Main Duties of the Job
  • Shape the strategic direction of Education and Training at ABUHB and beyond, in consultation with the Education and Training team and Pharmacy Management Team; organise, evaluate and deliver training and development programmes within Pharmacy Services.
  • Provide clinical leadership and skills in the designated speciality area, including supporting the implementation of medicines optimisation strategies, improving patient flow, and service improvements aimed at enhancing patient care and safety.
  • Work across both Cardiff University School of Pharmacy as an honorary lecturer and Aneurin Bevan University Health Board as an advanced clinical pharmacist and education lead. Clinical services will include ward‑based clinical care, dispensary sessions and prescribing services where applicable at our Royal Gwent Hospital site.
  • Act as a non‑medical prescriber when required, undertaking agreed sessions within the sphere of competence, initiating, modifying medication, monitoring therapy and adjusting treatment options.
  • Act as a professional role‑model in the field of Pharmacy practice in both organisations, and provide a consistently high standard of practice in line with the ABUHB Pharmacy Vision.

The post is fixed‑term/secondment for 30 months from start date due to funding.

If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
