Clinical Nurse Specialist (12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

£16.94 - 20.68 per hour

£22.17 - 26.40 per hour (Non-Medical Prescriber)

Main duties of the job

Our Clinical Nurse Specialists play an essential role in providing high-quality, person centred care for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. Their role extends beyond direct patient care to include education, leadership, and advocacy.

By combining clinical expertise, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills, they ensure that patients and families experience dignity, comfort, and peace during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Their role enhances the overall quality of palliative care and supports the healthcare team in delivering the best possible outcomes.

About us

Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice is in the heart of Headingley, Leeds. We provide expert palliative care at a time when people need this the most. We support you when you are living with a life-limiting condition, and also help your loved ones and family.

We support people aged 18 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, heart failure and lung disease by combining specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms with other emotional, practical and spiritual support.

We are able to provide care in our inpatient unit and our CNS team are on hand to visit people and provide care for people in their own home.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Palliative Care Nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first.

Your main duties will be to provide direct assessment, support and advocacy to service users and carers dealing with complex, distressing and life-limiting illnesses.

In addition:

You will manage your own caseload and provide expert care to service users, appropriate to their needs, wishes and culture.

You will collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate service user records.

  • Our ideal candidate will have significant experience of working in Palliative and End of Life Care with evidence of additional, role specific qualifications and professional development.
  • To work in our service, you should be able to demonstrate:
  • NMC registered and a Specialist nursing qualification and experience in complex care
  • Ability to support adjustments for diverse patient needs
  • Skilled in accessible communication with patients and families
  • Commitment to inclusion and patient advocacy
  • Advanced communication training (e.g. Sage & Thyme)
  • Experience with symptom management in complex needs
  • Sue Ryder provides a thorough induction with supernumerary time to settle into the role and full training/competency assessment will be provided.
  • There is plenty of scope to further develop your own skills in specialist palliative care, and planned career progression through our education programme and development framework is encouraged.
