We have a number of exciting and challenging new posts in the Offender Healthcare Service at HMP Wandsworth. This is a unique opportunity to be part of Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and to work at one of the largest prisons in the UK. You will assist us to provide excellent primary care and substance misuse services for our population.
Offenders are a challenging population group to work with and they often have complex healthcare needs. Offenders often have chaotic lives in the community and a history of poor engagement with community healthcare services. With high rates of substance misuse and mental health problems, this is a real chance to make a difference.

You will be joining us at an exciting time and be involved in the implementation of a Health and Wellbeing Model to improve offender healthcare. You will join our established team of nurses across the prison and will be part of a multidisciplinary team supporting the following services: Primary Care services including First Night in Custody screening, secondary screening, nurse clinics, long term condition management, health promotion; Inpatient Unit; Emergency Response and Substance Misuse nursing services. You will be supported by our friendly team of healthcare staff in an environment where no two days are the same.
We are looking for a Band 6 nurse from a wide variety of backgrounds. Experience of working with patients with substance misuse and mental health issues, or experience within a prison environment would be an advantage, but not essential as full support and training will be provided.
All applicants will be expected to take a numeracy test and only applicants who pass this test will be interviewed.
All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of the pre‑employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.
You will need to provide:
Address history: 5 years address history will be needed. Applicants that are not UK Passport holders who provide less than 5 years UK address history will need to provide a Police Certificate which must be in English from where they resided previously. Applicants who are UK Passport holders who have lived abroad for a period of more than six months during the last three years will need to provide a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the countries resided in or visited.
