Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Fellowship post within the Department of Anaesthesia at The Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt NHS Foundation Trust. The tenure is 12 months from February 2026. Both Junior and Senior Clinical Fellowship candidates are invited to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide anaesthetic cover for a wide variety of orthopaedic surgery ranging from high volume arthroplasty to complex spinal surgery, both adult and paediatric.
  • Cover operating lists as specified on the weekly rota and as otherwise requested by the lead consultant or their deputy.
  • Prescribe post‑operative analgesia, anti‑emetics, intravenous fluids and oxygen appropriate to the patient and procedure.
  • Manage patients in the emergency theatres out of hours and the critical care unit which provides level 2 critical care.
  • Support ward patients in conjunction with the outreach team.
  • Seek guidance of the duty consultant when clinically indicated and follow consultant instructions when working alone.
  • Be available outside normal duties in exceptional emergencies to ensure continuity of patient care.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Minimum 3 years experience in anaesthesia.
  • Demonstrable evidence of previous anaesthetic experience and competency to sit the EDRA at the end of the 12‑month post.
  • Strong commitment to professional development and excellence in patient care.
Training & Support

The post is not a recognised training post, but similar opportunities will be provided. Success will be supported to achieve the necessary competencies to sit the EDRA. Funding up to £1500 will be provided to fund examination fees and a regional anaesthesia cadaver course.

Salary

Starting salary will be dependent upon demonstrable previous anaesthetic experience and competency.
