Clinical Fellow ST3+ Stroke Medicine

We are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative ST3+ to join our existing team as an ST3+ Registrar to help shape the service we offer to our stroke patients, who we care passionately about. We are continually looking to develop flexible and creative ways of working and would relish the opportunity to explore the skills and ideas potential candidates could bring to our steadily expanding team. We always promote professional development and are keen to nurture personal interests which candidates may have.

Main duties of the job

The Duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service.

  • To be part of the ST3+Team (middle-grade) at the Great Western Hospital.
  • To participate in supervised Consultant led new and follow-up outpatient clinics.
  • To provide in-patient services for the Acute Stroke Unit, Emergency Department and inpatient rehab services.
  • To participate in professional meetings for patient care.
  • To participate in the general medicine on call rota [including out of hours].
  • Participation in clinical audits.
  • To contribute to undergraduate/post-graduate and continuing medical education activity.
  • Conducting suitable duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • Participate actively in patient safety, morbidity and other professional/patient meetings.
  • Participate actively in Child Safeguarding.

Job responsibilities

Management and Leadership Responsibilities:All staff in each Directorate are managerially accountable through their Lead Clinician and to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Directorate. Clinical Fellow ST3+ level doctors are key members of the Directorate team and are accountable and responsible for following the changes to service that will improve the patient experience set out by senior members of the team.

  • To support and supervise junior colleagues as appropriate.
  • To contribute to the leadership and development under the direction of the Lead Clinician and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trusts business plans.
  • The post holder will ensure effective communication and involvement of staff across the Directorate including support to the Divisional Director to achieve their objectives.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues in other Directorates within the Trust.
  • Work within the Trusts framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including thedevelopment of clinical policies and adherence to standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Fully registered with the GMC
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Applicants must be eligible for full registration and hold a current licence to practice from the GMC at the time of intended start date
Experience
  • Experience in the NHS with a reference from the NHS placement
  • Have either current employment in a UK Foundation Programme or have experience after full GMC Registration and evidence of achievement of foundation competences.
