Job summary

A leading health organization in Wales is seeking a Clinical Fellow in Sleep and Ventilation at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. The ideal candidate will support respiratory trainees and engage in teaching and research within the medical education department. Essential qualifications include MB ChB and MRCP equivalent. This position aims to enhance skills in acute respiratory management and requires evidence of teaching experience and effective communication skills.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assess and manage patients requiring acute NIV.

  • Attend one sleep clinic per week.

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow in Sleep and Ventilation and Medical Education based within the Department of Respiratory Medicine and the medical education dept at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

This post is ideal for a senior respiratory trainee with a keen interest in Sleep and Ventilation, but would also be suitable for someone who has completed Core Medical Training considering a career in Respiratory Medicine or hoping to gain more experience. It will provide the perfect platform to hone and develop skills in Sleep and Ventilation.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and we encourage applications from trainees currently holding a respiratory training number. MRCP or equivalent is essential.

Main duties of the job

This post is ideal for a senior respiratory trainee with a keen interest in Sleep and Ventilation, but would also be suitable for someone who has completed Core Medical Training considering a career in Respiratory Medicine or hoping to gain more experience. It will provide the perfect platform to hone and develop skills in Sleep and Ventilation.

In addition to delivering clinical service, the post holder will take an active role in teaching and research. Two sessions per week are spent working within the medical education department.

Job responsibilities
Clinical
  1. Assessment and management of patients requiring acute NIV in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
  2. Taking part in the assessment and initiation of patients commencing domiciliary NIV on Acton ward and in an outpatient setting.
  3. Undertake a clinical research/audit project over the 12 month period.
  4. Develop databases/ resources that allow robust data collection in relation to the investigation of sleep disordered breathing.
  5. Attendance at one sleep clinic per week, one sleep MDT per fortnight and one NIV clinic per fortnight.
  6. Attendance at UHA one day per fortnight in the Aintree Sleep clinic and the VIC.

Education

The post holder will have a regular schedule of teaching commitments and will actively contribute to the development and delivery of the Medical and Dental Educations Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Physician Associate and Widening Access education programmes.
