Job description
Post overview

The post holder will receive dedicated adult pulmonary hypertension training, gaining a full understanding of investigations, treatment and follow‑up of all forms of PH. Experience will include in‑patient care, day‑case review, virtual and face‑to‑face out‑patient work, right heart catheterisation, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, participation in multidisciplinary meetings and teaching ward rounds. There is no on‑call commitment.

Clinical responsibilities
  • Assist in the clinical services of the unit under direct consultant supervision.
  • Provide in‑patient, day‑case and outpatient care for adults with PH.
  • Attend to pre‑ and post‑procedure care for adults undergoing right heart catheterisation.
  • Supervise junior medical staff and support their ongoing education.
  • Contribute to weekly joint multidisciplinary clinical meetings.
  • Collect accurate clinical data for service assessment and the national PH audit.
  • Participate in audit, service improvement and clinical governance activities.
Research responsibilities
  • Initiate and conduct research, building on the appointee’s previous themes.
  • Translate research outcomes into improved patient care.
Clinical governance
  • Take part in clinical audit and comply with Clinical Governance processes.
Managerial responsibility
  • Contribute to education and training of peers and junior doctors.
  • No on‑call responsibility required.
Education and training
  • Weekly teaching ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Opportunities for training in echocardiography, right heart catheterisation, cardiopulmonary exercise testing and other imaging modalities, including CMR.
  • Support for general Cardiology registrar/Fellow training sessions.

The unit collaborates with several NHS hospitals across the South East and South of England, providing comprehensive care and maintaining a strong research programme.
