Job description
Overview

This post is for a senior clinical fellow at registrar level to work in the department of Emergency Medicine at Watford General Hospital. The purpose of the post is to provide shop floor supervision and patient care, and to ensure that the patients in the A&E are afforded rapid assessment and management.

Responsibilities
  • Assessing, diagnosing and treating patients within the ED and CED.
  • Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, delegating and training other members of the team.
  • Advising junior doctors and Nurse Practitioners on patient management and authorising referrals to speciality teams.
  • Liaising with other specialists and GPs as appropriate and leading treatment of patients in the resuscitation area.
  • Providing shop floor support and supervision to FY2s and Nurse Practitioners and undertaking direct patient care alongside middle grades, supervised by the Consultant team.
  • Ensuring early assessment of all patients by a senior decision maker and overseeing the whole ED through the ED controller role, Resuscitation lead and Senior Team for Assessment and Rapid Response (STARR).
  • Participating in management activities to develop key management skills needed in future Consultant posts.
  • Upholding and displaying the Trust values of Commitment, Care & Quality in all activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Full GMC registration and MRCEM(UK) or equivalent qualification.
  • Certificates in ATLS, APLS and ALS obtained during the appointment.
  • Experience of supervising junior doctors and Nurse Practitioners in an emergency department.
  • Willingness to work a 24-hour full shift pattern, including 1:3 weekend cover and out-of-hours clinical work in the ED.
  • Strong teaching and communication skills, with a commitment to continuous professional development.
