Overview
Gresham 1 Ward is an intensive care unit, a busy 20-bed female ward located on the Bethlem Royal Hospital site. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Clinical Charge Nurse to join our well-established team within Croydon Acute Care Service.
The Clinical Charge Nurse’s role is suitable for Registered Mental Nurses who have successfully completed preceptorship and have registered as an approved NMC mentor.
Responsibilities
- Work with the ward team and the manager to provide high-quality nursing care and leadership.
- Implement and monitor all policies and ensure the ward functions in line with the Trust and the ward’s philosophy of providing respectful, compassionate care of the highest quality.
- Ensure supervision and appraisal systems are robust and that care provided meets the service’s clinical governance framework.
- Collaborate with the Ward Manager to provide a safe environment and ensure effective deployment of resources within agreed budgets.
- Lead by example, support junior staff and students in their professional development through effective clinical leadership.
- Maintain the highest standard of care provision and staffing safety in coordination with other Clinical Charge Nurses and the Ward Manager.
- Contribute to service development and improvement and participate in risk assessment, balancing safety with least restrictive practice.
- Demonstrate resilience and empathy for individuals with mental health difficulties and maintain commitment to an excellent service.
Qualifications and requirements
- Registered Mental Nurse with successful completion of preceptorship.
- Registered as an approved NMC mentor.
- Experience in a dynamic acute mental health service and strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to assess risk formally and informally and to balance risk with therapeutic approaches.
- Commitment to professional development and the ability to guide and support junior staff.
