About the role

Are you passionate about climate change? We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to play a key role in implementing our Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan.

Managing the delivery of a variety of projects to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our buildings and fleet, tackle the challenges of climate change mitigation and adaptation, develop the green economy and improve the conservation of natural capital.

Working with colleagues and external partners, you will be joining an organisation that has a track record in delivering green energy and biodiversity projects and will play a key part in building on this to help the Council achieve its environmental targets and achieve our goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, supporting with actions and projects to tackle Climate Change districtwide.

As our Climate Change Project Manager, you will monitor, collate and analyse data, report on performance against environmental targets and help communicate progress and success on climate change to internal and external stakeholders.

About you

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a project management, data analysis or environmental-related subject, you will have an analytical background with good working knowledge of project management, data management and performance monitoring and an understanding of a range of climate change and environmental sustainability issues.

Good communication skills, both oral and written, are also essential for this role, as you will be required to present complex and sometimes technical information to a wide range of internal and external audiences.

Accountabilities
  • Oversee the management of the Council's climate change projects for delivery within agreed time-frame and targets to meet the Council's ambition to become carbon neutral by 2030.
  • Manage Climate Change Action Plan projects from inception, co-ordination execution, monitoring, reporting and closure of projects.
  • Direct multi-disciplinary professional teams to co-ordinate, implement and deliver allocated projects and ensure key project milestones are met in accordance with agreed approvals.
  • Ensure key project information is kept up to date to allow for successful programme management, by measuring, gathering, monitoring and the storage of environmental data including carbon data for all climate change activities including progress against strategic and specific targets
  • Assist in the development of project processes and ensure that schemes are delivered within approved carbon reduction or environmental parameters.
  • Ensure appropriate considerations are in place to deliver agreed project outcomes and realisation of intended climate change and wider benefits.
  • Engage with key stakeholders and partners to deliver schemes successfully, e.g. relevant Council teams, Members, appropriate neighbour and community groups and end users.
  • Prepare and present reports for Head of Service, Corporate Director, Management Board, Portfolio Holder, Cabinet and Council.
  • Pro-actively network and make appropriate linkages and act as a 'brand ambassador' to identify new climate change opportunities for the Council and partners.
  • Manage Climate Change Officer groups and Member groups with colleagues from across the Council to ensure they are engaged in delivering their actions and outcomes from the action plan.
  • Prepare the Council's Climate pages on the BDC public website and internal Sharepoint site, prepare presentations, newsletters and reports as required, providing information in appropriate forms for a range of audiences
  • Research and analyse technical and policy information on climate change and environmental topics, to support performance management and ensuring appropriate systems are in place to secure improvements.
  • Respond to climate change related FOI requests and public enquiries across the Council ensuring they are completed within the required timeframes.
