Civil & Structural Engineer - Nuclear Sector

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Civil & Structural Engineer to join our team supporting major nuclear and energy infrastructure projects in the UK. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, structural analysis, and delivery of civil and structural engineering scopes, ensuring compliance with nuclear safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and validate structural and civil engineering designs, including reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, foundations, and associated civil works.
- Prepare or review structural calculations, analytical models, design drawings, and technical documentation in compliance with relevant codes and standards.
- Work with CAD and structural modelling software to support technical design outputs from concept through to detailed design and design modification phases.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, piping, HVAC, services) to ensure coherent integration of structural scopes.
- Manage engineering changes and ensure quality assurance/configuration control in design deliverables.
- Participate in peer reviews, design reviews, interface reviews, and safety/compliance assessments.
- Liaise with contractors, vendors, or other stakeholders as needed, particularly where structural or civil interfaces intersect with procurement, construction, or installation.
Required Skills & Experience
- BEng / MEng degree (or equivalent) in Civil or Structural Engineering (or relevant discipline).
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the nuclear sector or similar heavy‑industry, energy, or large‑scale, highly regulated infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in structural design of large‑scale structures (concrete and/or steel), including calculations, analysis, and design development.
- Familiarity with structural design codes and standards (e.g., Eurocodes / UK equivalents) and regulatory requirements for safety‑critical projects.
- Competence in structural modelling or CAD tools (e.g., STAAD‑Pro, Tekla, or equivalent).
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder‑management skills.
- Ability to manage documentation, calculations, QA, and design governance procedures.
Desirable
- Chartered or working toward chartered status (e.g., ICE or IStructE).
- Experience with seismic design, CDM regulations, or nuclear compliance frameworks.
- Prior experience with nuclear‑island civil/structural design or heavy industrial infrastructure.
- Familiarity with project management principles and handling design scope, schedule, and interface coordination.
