Description

Gloucestershire County Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Social Worker to join our Children and Families Team in Gloucester as an Advanced Practitioner. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and inspire within a dynamic team, helping to deliver high-quality services that improve the lives of children, young people, and families. You will take on a protected caseload, working with children with complex needs, risks, and circumstances, while also playing a key role in quality control, service improvement, and performance support. We operate a hybrid working model – staff work in the office for visits, duty services, and team collaboration, while administrative tasks can be completed remotely. New team members will be expected to spend more time in the office initially to foster team cohesion and stability.

Responsibilities
  • Hold a protected caseload of children with complex and challenging needs.
  • Support the team in delivering high-quality interventions and services for children and families.
  • Promote and lead quality improvement activities within the team and across the service.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to less experienced social workers.
  • Ensure best practices in safeguarding, assessment, and planning for children and families.
  • Work closely with multi‑agency partners to coordinate care and support.
  • Take an active role in performance monitoring and service development.
Requirements
  • Degree in Social Work and Social Work England registration.
  • Significant experience in children's social care, with a proven track record of managing complex cases.
  • Leadership skills – ability to mentor, support, and guide colleagues within the team.
  • Strong understanding of child protection, safeguarding, and relevant legislation.
  • IT skills – ability to use electronic case management systems effectively.
  • Flexibility – ability to work both in the office and remotely, as required.
