Hours: Monday-Friday, 09:00-18:00

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Child and Family Worker to support children, young people and families, helping to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
In this role, you will:
- Provide support and interventions to help children stay safely at home where possible.
- Contribute to alternative care planning when children cannot remain at home.
- Facilitate and supervise family time between cared‑for children and their families, ensuring safe, meaningful and positive sessions.
- Work alongside social workers on Child Protection (CP), Child in Need (CIN) and Cared‑for (CLA) plans, including delivering direct work with children such as life‑story sessions.
- Support rehabilitation of children returning home to parents or carers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver support within the Edge of Care programme and statutory children's plans.
- Supervise family time sessions and manage challenging behaviour with sensitivity.
- Travel to transport children to and from sessions, which may include journeys outside Sunderland.
- Maintain accurate case records and produce high-quality written information for reviews and meetings.
- Build effective relationships with families and professionals to improve outcomes for children.
- Proactively manage workload, planning venues, transport and session logistics.
- Understand and respond appropriately to the impact of domestic abuse on children and families.
- Work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends.
What We're Looking For
- Experience supporting children and young people in social care, health or education environments.
- Experience working with disabled children – highly desirable.
- Strong communication and engagement skills with both children and adults.
- Ability to maintain accurate data and case records.
- Enhanced DBS – essential.
- Ability to travel as required for the role.
