Job description

Chief Operating Officer – c. £90,000 + benefits (remote/hybrid)

For almost half a century, Crohn’s & Colitis UK has been the leading charity for people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Every year, 25,000 people in the UK are told they have Crohn’s Disease or Ulcerative Colitis: incurable, unpredictable, life-changing conditions that are on the rise. That diagnosis – which can take years – is just the beginning. Finding a treatment that works is often a long road and many end up needing surgery.

At Crohn’s & Colitis UK we have built a strong community, supporting those who are affected by the conditions and connecting patient advocates, researchers and expert clinicians. We are bringing people together every day and we can work together to help us set out the roadmap to a cure.

There is still a long way to go, but as awareness of Crohn’s and Colitis has grown, so have we. As we move towards a brighter future at pace, we are looking for an ambitious new Chief Operating Officer to join our Senior Executive Team.

As a qualified accountant with experience of collaborating with or leading wider functions, you will be responsible for:

  • Growing, leading, and inspiring a multi-disciplinary operational team across our digital, data, technology, HR, business intelligence, and finance functions.
  • Bringing financial leadership and rigour, to drive maturity and strong financial management across the organisation at all levels.
  • Improving our organisational and financial planning and forecasting capabilities throughout this step-change in our capability and scale, in addition to delivering our statutory financial reporting and compliance obligations.
  • Working in partnership with a capable Board, leadership team and colleagues; acting as a critical friend to ensure robustness within our decision-making.
  • Driving and embodying an organisational culture of autonomy, accountability, and high performance.
  • Continuing to grow the already impressive digital ambition and data-literacy of our organisation, as we move to a culture of data-driven decision making.
  • Showing adaptability, curiosity and high levels of emotional intelligence to a broad range of stakeholders at all levels.
  • Assessing the future viability of our systems, operating procedures and policies, to ensure that we are setup for success.

You will be joining a highly capable, energetic and ambitious leadership team at an incredibly exciting time. As either an established COO, Director of Resources, or Finance Director looking to formally broaden your remit, your energy, leadership and skills will help to cement and continue our exciting growth and change journey. Your success in this post will not only continue the vital work to support over half a million known people who need our support but build a framework for our continued growth and recognition.
