What you'll be doing
  • Working with stakeholders to identify, test and introduce modelling software and toolsets to support modelling of novel and existing energetic materials
  • Working with stakeholders internal to the business to build models which support understanding and predicting energetic materials behaviours
  • Working alongside project engineers and stakeholders to support the execution of UKMOD projects in the field
  • Working with other areas of the wider business to support the developing and expansion of SMART Qualification
  • Supporting with ad-hoc requirements as needed
Your skills and experiences
Essential
  • Minimum degree level Chemistry or Physics
  • Knowledge of shock physics
  • Knowledge of modelling and simulation techniques
  • Good technical report writing
  • The ability to present effectively
Desirable
  • Experience of trials and small scale lab testing
  • Understanding of Engineering drawings and some familiarity of CAD/CAM techniques and software
  • Understanding of Computational Chemistry
  • Knowledge of Thermodynamics and Reaction Kinetics
  • Familiarity of Finite Element Analysis, Hydrocodes and thermal transfer codes
  • Computer programming skills

Engineering Analysis Department

As a Trainee Chemical Modelling Analyst (Ignition and Growth), you will focus on developing models to increase our understanding of the behaviour of our existing and novel energetic materials in order to support our SMART Qualification initiative. You will work within the Engineering Analysis Team, alongside Project Engineers, and other stakeholders.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills while working in a niche sector which is at the forefront of SMART Qualification.
