Responsibilities
  • Supervise all aspects of Staff & Visitors food production
  • Support preparing and cooking meals in line with food hygiene, health and safety regulations, and dietary requirements.
  • Oversee food service operations, maintaining high standards of portion control, food presentation and customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure the correct and safe operation of catering equipment at all times, reporting faults promptly.
  • Ensure all catering equipment is thoroughly cleaned and safe to use before the start of the next shift.
  • Ensure that environmental cleaning of all service and production areas, including floors, surfaces and equipment is carried out in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and by telephone.
  • Take responsibility for supervising the department in the absence of the designated person in charge.
  • Report any discrepancies related to the receipt and distribution of catering supplies to the supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Plan and organise own workload effectively, using initiative to manage day‑to‑day tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Record and report data on food service matters, including recipe usage, wastage, and feedback.
  • Follow standardised planning to ensure consistency, quality, and cost-effective use of resources.
  • Maintain accurate records in line with departmental and Trust requirements.
Qualifications
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent
  • Confident in using IT systems for ordering, recording, and reporting
  • Evidence of a good general level of education
  • Experience working in a catering environment
  • Experience of supervising or coordinating a team
  • Experience working to food hygiene and safety standards
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in a healthcare, hospital, or similar regulated environment
  • Knowledge of NHS food standards and guidelines
