Position Overview
We have a position available for a catering supervisor to join the team at Cramlington hospital. As part of this role, you will be required to maintain the standards of cleanliness as specified throughout the work areas, by means of approved methods.
Please note that it is a requirement of NHFML that all successful applicants pay for their own DBS certificate, if a DBS check is required for the post. The method of payment is a salary deduction from your first monthly pay.

Key Responsibilities
- Receiving, checking for quality, temperature and correct quantity as per order to suppliers, and storage of goods in the appropriate area within the time limits set out in the department policy on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP).
- Demonstrate the ability to serve food to staff and to check temperature levels and be aware of the Food Temperature Regulations.
- Operating the central dish wash machine, cleaning, drying and checking of the staff/ward crockery and cutlery.
- Preparation of vegetables, fruits, salads and other dishes.
- Preparation and dispatch of meals.
- Service of food in restaurant, dining room and associated areas, and preparation of sandwiches, hot snacks and beverages where applicable.
- The cleaning and re‑stocking of vending machines.
- Operation of the Staff Dining Room cash register.
- Accountable for the control and direction of all Coffee Shop/Barista assistants and provision of a high quality, efficient, customer‑oriented catering service in compliance with the Trust Patient Confidentiality Policy.
- Ensure high standard service and quality of food and beverages, including standards of hygiene, HACCP, COSHH and adherence to all Trust policies.
- Simple preparation, cooking and dispatch of all types of meals, whether fresh, frozen or chilled.
- Assist in the coordination of the Catering Services to the Hotel Services Officer.
- Checking and accounting for cash and vouchers, keeping of records and continuous updating of the Function Diary.
- Oversee replenishing and maintenance of automatic vending machines; must have sound knowledge of stock control procedures.
- Flexible working arrangements and undertake any other duties as may be required; willing to undertake training deemed necessary by the Catering Superintendent /Hotel Services Officer.
- Fully effective and efficient deployment of staff.
- Administration of Staff Rostering system.
- Undertake “Return to Work” meetings with staff following sickness absence.
- Administration, training and development, appraisal and counseling of staff.
- Checking and upkeep of all catering equipment and maintenance of service/report schedules.
- On‑the‑job training to staff to ensure correct methods and working practices; provide close supervision until required standard is achieved.
- Respond to low‑level complaints in an effective and professional manner to a successful resolution.
- Ensure that appraisals and statutory and mandatory training are complete in their designated staff group.
- Regularly complete quality control sheets in accordance with quality control procedures.
- Assist staff in recording incidents via the Datix system.
Requirements
- Must have a sound knowledge of stock control procedures.
- Appreciation of HACCP, COSHH, and Trust policies.
- Ability to supervise and train staff.
- Willingness to undertake DBS checks if required.
