Job description
Catering Assistant

The closing date is 27 November 2025

We are seeking a Catering Assistant to support the Central Production Unit (CPU) in delivering and assisting with the preparation, processing, chilling or freezing of raw materials in accordance with strict procedures, using sophisticated high‑volume cooking and chilling/freezing equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Support the CPU in delivering and assisting in preparation, processing, chilling or freezing of raw materials.
  • Use own initiative within standard operating procedures while reporting to the Kitchen Superintendent/Production Manager.
  • Maintain detailed control of time and temperature during food transportation.
  • Undertake cleaning duties as directed by the online Supervisor, ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • Carry out duties in various sections of the CPU, including preparation and cleaning.
  • Assist in delivery of frozen and dry goods, participate in receipt of stores, stock rotation and handling of heavy equipment.
  • Clean and store equipment, provisions, crockery, cutlery and utensils safely and hygienically; perform periodic area cleanings (walls, floors).
  • Document and complete temperature forms required by legislation accurately.
  • Observe and maintain high personal hygiene standards, confidentiality, courtesy and consideration for all staff.
  • Segregate and promptly remove waste to designated points following the Safe Waste Handling Procedure.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness per schedule; use dishwasher/pot‑wash, scrubbing machines and pressure cleaners as needed.
Qualifications
  • Certificate in Basic Food Hygiene (or requirement to achieve at earliest opportunity).
  • City & Guilds 706/1/2 or equivalent NVQ.
Experience and Skills
  • Experience in large scale/commercial kitchen.
  • Dependable and reliable; previous experience in a catering environment.
Welsh Language Skills

Welsh Skills Desirable: The role is advertised as Welsh Desirable; speaking & listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above are an advantage, though not essential.

Person Specification

Experience not required to be Welsh; a level 3 proficiency suffices for short‑listing.
