Care Support Worker - Mental Health

Overview

NHSP offers flexible shifts and career development opportunities across partner NHS Trusts. You will be joining a bank staff team providing care in mental health settings, with options for ongoing learning and a healthy work-life balance.

What you'll be responsible for
  • Monitoring patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations, and weight.
  • Assisting in the delivery of patient care as directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Keeping the patient as the prime focus when making decisions about their care and wellbeing.
  • Assisting patients with compassion in activities of daily living while respecting privacy, dignity, and human rights.
  • Other duties as required related to the items above.

Job responsibilities

Location: Devon Partnership NHS Trust (Exeter, Torquay and surrounding areas; main hospitals in Exeter and Torquay)

Shift Patterns: 7:30am–3:30pm; 7:30am–12:30pm; 9:00am–5:00pm; 12:30pm–8:30pm; 3:30pm–8:30pm; 8:00pm–8:00am

What you'll need
  • A minimum of 6 months’ experience as a Mental Health Care Assistant in a hospital or mental health care setting (qualifications may accompany individuals with 6–12 months experience)
  • Alternatively, studying as a Student Nurse with at least 12 weeks of clinical placements towards a Mental Health Nursing degree
  • Depending on the Trust, additional certification and skills may be required
Qualifications
  • Care Certificate or a relevant qualification (evidence accepted includes):
  • Student Nurse with at least 12 weeks clinical placements
  • Care Certificate from an NHS organisation
  • QCF Level 2 Diploma in Healthcare Support Services (post-2011)
  • QCF Level 2 or above Diploma in Health & Social Care or Clinical Healthcare Support (post-2011)
  • QCF Level 3 or above Diploma in Healthcare Support or Maternity & Paediatric Support (post-2011; for Paediatric & Maternity roles only)
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing without current NMC registration
