Overview

Care & Support worker – Stevenage

The role

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Care and Support mental health team in Stevenage. Within this role you support residents with enduring mental health issues. This can be highly challenging but rewarding in equal measure.

This role does require early or late shift work, including some weekends and bank holidays.

As a key worker you will be fully responsible for your customers’ support plans and encouraging their independence. The customers may have complex enduring mental ill health issues, often the result of drug induced psychosis, with unpredictable behavioural patterns. They require positive support to ensure their independence is maintained and they are encouraged to remain as active in the community as possible. The ultimate objective if for residence to return to independent living in the community.

Responsibilities
  • Be the key worker for assigned customers, including maintaining detailed records and coordinating their support packages with third parties involved in residence support.
  • Make daily decisions on safeguarding and risk issues, remaining confident and decisive in responses.
  • Work within a dedicated management structure with full support while promoting residents’ independence and community participation.
  • Demonstrate empathy, understanding and patience in delivering a demanding but rewarding service to vulnerable adults.
  • Utilise good IT skills as part of case recording and communication.
What you’ll need to succeed
  • Team player with enthusiasm for the role; strong communication skills, flexible approach and positive attitude to achieve targets in a changing environment.
  • Empathy, understanding and patience to support residents with complex needs.
  • Ability to make and act on safeguarding and risk decisions; confident and decisive in responding to issues.
  • Full support from management; ability to maintain detailed records and coordinate with third parties.
  • Good IT skills.

You will be the person that makes a difference to an individual becoming content and managing their own life!

To meet our commitment to providing safe, high-quality services to our customers we will complete an enhanced background check with the Disclosure and Barring service, which will include a check of the Adult Barred list once an offer of employment is made. A new check will be completed every three years.
