The Peninsula Heart Clinic is an independently operated cardiologycentre in partnership with University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Treatmentat the Peninsula Heart Clinic is delivered through a state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab, 5-bed recovery, 5-chair radial lounge, 3individual ensuite bedrooms and extensive outpatient clinic facilities.

The successful candidatewill :
Be part of the multi-disciplinary teamproviding outstanding care to our patients;
Work within the Catheter lab providing imaging for PCI, Angiograms, Pacing/Complex Devices and Electrophysiology & Ablation services; and
Work closely with the Peninsula Heart Clinic RadiationProtection Supervisor (RPS).

REQUIREMENTS & RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL
To ensure the provision of an effectiveRadiography service within the Cardiac Cath Labs.
To produce and promote images of the highesttechnical quality, adapting and tailoring the examination to the needs of thepatient taking into account their physical and medical conditions.
To provide expert and clinical specialistcatheter lab radiographic knowledge and advice to the department and hospitalincluding referrers, other clinical staff, patients and their relatives.
To undertake specialised catheter lab radiographictechniques and teach such skills to other radiographers within the department.
To provide professional leadership, training andinduction for all radiographic staff seconded to the catheter lab on arotational and permanent basis.
To work unsupervised
To monitor all radiographic standards within thecatheter labs, identifying any problems and instituting remedial action asrequired to maintain and improve quality.
To observe all Local Rules for RadiationProtection, ensuring they are complied with, and that radiation safety is ofparamount importance.
To be responsible for the organisation of workprogrammes for the suites, including checking and monitoring of all requestforms.
To contribute to the coordination of thecatheter labs, working with the other professional leads, senior clinic management, and cardiologists.
To provide statistics relating to the service asrequested by senior staff including the analysis of referrals, room utilisationand workload, disseminating data as required.
Working with the Lead Consultants to provideclinical specialist advice on equipment requirements
To be able to advise medical staff on thetechnical and clinical applications and limitations of imaging procedures withparticular reference to catheter lab radiography.
To abide by all Trust and PHC policies andprocedures.
MANAGERIAL
To support Radiation Protection SupervisorQuality Management programme.
To undertake specialised cardiac catheter labradiography procedures unaided.
To critically evaluate images both technicallyand clinically in order to ensure that the best possible imaging is producedtaking the patients medical and physiological conditions into account.
To maintain the highest standards of personalpractical and theoretical knowledge.
To organise planned maintenance and adviseengineers on equipment problems and failures, undertaking fault findingprocedures and remedial action as required by equipment maintenance engineers.
To diligently record all necessary operational and technical data, using departmental and hospital paper and electronic systems.
To monitor quality control of all imagingprotocols.
To maintain a Quality Assurance programme withinthe catheter lab in accordance with departmental policy.
To be responsible for radiography audit as itapplies to the catheter lab.
To be responsible for the promotion of andcompliance with the Local Rules for Radiation Safety; ensuring patient, staffand visitor safety is of paramount importance at all times.
To ensure that all clinical and non-clinicalaccidents or incidents in the work area are promptly brought to the attentionof the Health and Safety Representative, and when requested, co-operatewith any investigations undertaken. Employees must be aware of theresponsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974,to ensure that the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safeenvironment for patients, employees and visitors.
To comply at all times with policies andprocedures relating to Health and Safety. and to escalate any hazard inaccordance with reporting processes.
EDUCATIONAL
Participate in relevant induction programmes fornew staff, as appropriate.
To participate in educational programmes for ownprofessional development, including (but not limited to) mandatory training in:a) Fire safety b) Basic life support c) Moving and handling.
To participate in ongoing teaching programmesand staff development.
To act as an educational resource for others.
Ensure that all members of staff are conversantwith and adhere to: a) Policies and procedures, local, regional and national b)Correct use of equipment c) Clinical guidelines.
To ensure own training needs are met andmaintain a development structure that will foster best practice.
Attend any specific clinical training thatensures clinical competency is maintained.
Complete reports and records as required bymanagers e.g. incidents/accidents.
Deal with complaints in accordance with localand Trust policy.
Maintain effective communication with allservice users and the multidisciplinary team.
Attend meetings as required.
Liaise with outside agencies as appropriate.
Ensure Clinical Governance standards are metwith partnership of unit manager/s.
