Job description

This is a part-time, 25 hour per week position that includes weekend hours.

SCOPE OF WORK

Performs general safety and security functions associated with patrolling, inspecting, and securing buildings and grounds, enforcing rules and regulations, responding to alarms and incidents, assisting the community and public and maintaining records. This position shall report to the College Safety & Security Supervisor at Manchester Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Ensures the safety and welfare of the college community by providing emergency services, routine campus patrols on campus, security buildings, facilitating traffic flow and enforcing parking regulations.
  • Identifies safety hazards and takes the necessary actions to eliminate or report them.
  • Enforces college policies and procedures as well as state and Federal laws pertaining to students, faculty, staff and visitors while on campus.
  • Conducts preliminary investigations regarding violations of college policies, state law.
  • Works closely with local police and fire departments on matters of mutual concern relating to the safety of the campus community.
  • Prepares thorough written reports relating to security and safety matters.
  • Tracks door key distribution to employees.
  • Distributes ID badges to MCC staff and faculty.
  • Effectively responds to emergencies and urgent incidents.
  • Effectively communicates with colleagues, faculty, and students.
  • Maintains proficiency with computer operating systems, communication systems, and security systems such as, Microsoft Office, email, surveillance cameras, etc.
  • Wears uniform in accordance with specified standards.
  • Operates patrol vehicle in varies weather conditions when needed.
  • Provides general information to visitors and students.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.

Experience: Three years' experience in law enforcement work as a security guard/officer, police officer, corrections officer, or military police officer. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of experience.

Licensure/Certifications: Valid New Hampshire drivers’ license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Must be at least 21 years of .
  2. Current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification;
  3. Must be able to readjust work schedule to meet emergencies or changes in work plans due to institutional needs. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is subject to all its provisions.
QUALIFICATIONS

Current Incident Management System (NIMS) certification.

Detail oriented, honest, dependable, and flexible. Possess excellent interpersonal and decision-making skills, ability to exercise proper judgement and thorough report writing ability. Able to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals with the ability to handle emergency situations calmly, and efficiently as well as the ability to work well under pressure. Demonstrated knowledge of campus environment and/or security industry, relevant laws, and safety and fire prevention. Ability to work with people and secure their cooperation without the use of violence. Ability to perform investigations, question witnesses and prepare written reports. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
