CAMHS Specialist Mental Health Practitioner

Our Children and Young People Mental Health Team in Cannock and Seisdon are seeking an experienced Senior Mental Health Practitioner to join the Multi-Disciplinary Team. Our team includes a mix of Psychiatrists, Nursing, Social work, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, and support staff.

You will be part of a wider Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) providing high quality, timely, and comprehensive mental health services for children and young people (CYP) with a range of complex mental health needs. You will focus on evidence-based bio-psychosocial assessment and nursing specialist interventions, working towards evidence-based recovery. You will provide the coordination and collaboration in meeting the needs for a defined caseload working directly with CYP, their families/carers, and external agencies.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide specialist assessments of children and young people, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation & integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
  • To be responsible for implementing a range of clinical interventions for children and their families, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining formulations drawing upon different explanatory models.
  • To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options based on theoretical and therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of children and families.
  • To provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients' formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • To contribute directly and indirectly to improving the understanding of child and adolescent mental health.
  • To offer medication interventions where appropriate.

In the role you will:

  • take a lead role in the development of clinical services for young people accessing CAMHS services, including those identified as requiring additional consultation.
  • be an essential member of the MDT and be able to facilitate the coordination of care on a multi-disciplinary basis.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse, Allied Health Professional, Social Worker, Psychological Professional
  • Additional qualification in Child & Adolescent Mental Health, inclusive of but not limited to: CYP IAPT, CBT, CBTp, Family interventions, CAT, DBT etc
  • Recognised appropriate qualification in mentoring/assessing/supporting students in placement
Experience
  • Evidence of extensive post registration experience working with those who may experience complex mental health needs in the community setting and working in an MDT
  • Experience of working with people who have difficulty in engaging with services and have complex mental health needs requiring care coordination and autonomous working
  • Experience of assessing and managing complex needs, including risk within a structured framework such as CPA/Safeguarding Children and familiarity in working in CAMHS
  • Experience of effectively managing mental health related (2) issues/referrals/need for advice face to face and virtually including telephone at times of high demand and in relation to highly stressful/emotive situations
