Job description

Our client is seeking a dedicated CAD Technician to join their Transport and Parking team on a contract basis. This role focuses on supporting the council's Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy by designing plans for new charging points alongside other transport‑related projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Programme and Strategy team with scheme development and design.
  • Support the delivery of the Corporate Plan targets for electric vehicle charging provision.
  • Investigate traffic and parking‑related issues and design appropriate solutions.
  • Use AutoCAD to produce feasibility, outline, and detailed scheme designs under direction from colleagues.
  • Review and assess the need for new or amended traffic signs, road markings, and design.
  • Update and maintain the ParkMap database.
  • Draft Traffic Management Order location descriptions.
  • Assist with the collection of traffic data and occasionally carry out site visits.
Job Requirements
  • Experience in civil engineering design principles.
  • Experience in investigating, designing, programming, and implementing traffic and parking schemes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally within the organisation and with external contacts, including councillors and the public.
  • Experience with ParkMap is desirable.
  • Ability to travel independently throughout the borough for site visits.
  • HNC in Civil Engineering, BTEC Level 3 in Construction and the Built Environment, or equivalent qualifications are desirable.
  • GCSE A-C or equivalent in Mathematics and English (Key Skills Level 2).
