Regional Communications Lead – Wales Cymru

Work Type: Hybrid – 22 Hours per week, minimum of one day per week in the Cardiff office. Location: Cardiff (Cardiff Bay). Salary: £38,000 pro rata (approx. £23,128.83).

The Role

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) – Wales Cymru is seeking a Regional Communications Lead to drive brand awareness, member engagement, and policy influence across the nation. You will deliver high-impact communications, build partnerships, and champion the civil engineering profession to diverse audiences.

We are seeking a natural communicator with a passion for storytelling, strategy, and stakeholder engagement, committed to working with an organisation that aims to make a lasting impact on the future of infrastructure and civil engineering in Wales.

Responsibilities

  • Owning and delivering the regional communications plan—from strategy to execution.
  • Creating compelling, informative articles and pitching them to media, ensuring ICE is seen, heard, and respected.
  • Supporting membership services through creative campaigns and high-quality promotional materials.
  • Leading communications for policy and external affairs activity and media relations.
  • Growing ICE’s reputation through strong stakeholder relationships—from government to schools and STEM organisations.
  • Driving engagement across digital channels, including social media, email campaigns, and the regional website.
  • Supporting and celebrating members through events, awards, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Generating income through sponsorship and creative promotional partnerships.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent experience) with a strong background in communications, PR, or marketing.
  • Ability to write and edit content to a high standard—media releases, blogs, or speeches.
  • Welsh language skills are an advantage.
  • Excellent stakeholder and volunteer management skills.
  • Independent worker capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Understanding of the media landscape and experience in leading media relations.
  • Eye for visual design and storytelling; fluent in digital and social media.
  • Creativity, initiative, and a solutions-focused mindset.
  • Experience with government and policy engagement.
  • Knowledge of the built environment or infrastructure sectors.
  • Skills in CMS, Adobe InDesign, or email marketing tools.
  • Experience working with membership or volunteer organisations.
