About the Role

The Buyer/Planner sits at the operational heart of the business, ensuring that materials, components and subcontract services are sourced correctly, available on time, and aligned with production requirements. You will coordinate purchasing activity and plan job schedules, in line with workshop capacity and customer deadlines. Working closely with Engineering, Fabrication and Sub‑Assembly teams, you will help drive efficient builds and remove bottlenecks before they develop.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership, communication and problem‑solving in a dynamic engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Our Buyer/ Planner will take ownership of purchasing and production planning activities that ensure materials, parts and subcontract services are available when needed, and that build schedules run smoothly. You will work cross‑functionally to support efficient workflow, minimise delays and maintain accurate data across the business.

Purchasing & Supplier Management
  • Raise purchase orders for raw materials, hardware, consumables and subcontract services.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiating lead times and pricing.
  • Track order status, expedite late deliveries and proactively resolve supply issues.
Planning & Production Coordination
  • Build, plan and run BOMs/MRP reports to identify shortages and trigger procurement actions.
  • Produce, update and communicate production schedules aligned with workshop capacity.
  • Create and maintain shortage lists, co‑ordinating resolutions with Stores and Workshop teams.
  • Support smooth workflow through proactive planning and early risk identification.
Data, Systems & Cost Control
  • Maintain accurate ERP/MRP data relating to costs, materials, lead times and job status.
  • Ensure BOM structures, part information and supplier data remain current and accurate.
  • Support the Operations Manager with cost inputs for quotes and project costing.
  • Develop, track and report operational KPIs related to purchasing performance, supplier reliability, material availability and planning efficiency, ensuring continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Qualifications, Skills & Personal Attributes
Essential
  • Experience in purchasing, planning or materials coordination, within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with suppliers and internal project teams.
  • Highly organised, prioritising and managing time effectively, in a fast‑paced and changeable setting.
  • Understand manufacturing workflows (e.g., machining, fabrication, assembly).
  • Have experience of working with ERP/MRP systems and reading BOM structures.
Desirable
  • Experience of Motorsport, precision engineering, automotive or aerospace environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings.
