Job description

Thorn Baker Industrial Recruitment are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our client based in Leicester.

They are a long established manufacturing business that are looking for someone to join their team due to an upcoming retirement.

The job:

You will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials, components and subcontracted services that are essential to ongoing manufacturing projects.

You will ensure that all procurement activity meets company quality, cost and delivery expectations while supporting production schedules and operational targets.

Working hours Monday to Thursday 7.30am-4.30pm and Friday 7.30am-12.30pm.

Salary is £30-33k dependant on your experience.

Key responsibilities:

• Raise purchase orders, track shipments and resolve any supply chain issues.
• Work closely with production and project teams to forecast material needs and ensure timely availability.
• Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation for improved supplier performance.
• Support cost saving initiative opportunities for improved supplier performance.
• Ensure material received meets required specifications and quality standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the procurement and production functions.

Person requirement:

• You must have previous experience in a purchasing or buyer or procurement role within manufacturing, sheet metal or engineering.
• Experience in using an MRP system - if used Javelin - that would be a big bonus although training will be provided.
• Be able to demonstrate strong negotiation and supplier management skills.
• Ability to read and understand technical information, specifications or drawings.
• Highly organised with excellent attention to detail and record keeping.
• Effective communicator and able to work across multiple departments.
• Proactive approach to problem solving and supporting operational needs.
• Strong commitment to quality and adherence to company standards.
